More than a concert venue, it is an experience of a lifetime. Close enough to us that other guests have come just for the concert and stayed at our condo, traveling home the next morning.

About the Owner
I was raised in a small Kansas town on the farm where most of the residents were related in one way or the other. Our family consisted of my dad, Gerald Rex, mom, Alice Norma, brothers Steve, Jack, my sister Gerry and myself. The Hartnett family farm was right off Highway 50 Mile Marker 205. We always had strangers come to the house to use the phone, needing gas, or seeking shelter due to weather. We helped the best we could, including inviting them into our home. The farm produced mainly wheat and milo. We also raised cows, sheep, and pigs. Dad farmed with his dad and then later was joined by my brothers. My sister and I were on the cooking team with Mom. Gerald Rex served our country in W.W.II in the Army/Air Force as a Crew Chief on the B52. After serving, he returned to farm life in Kansas. He had many talents. Farming and raising livestock were his main calling. In the winters when farming was not so demanding, he took great pride in his carpentry skills. On many Sunday afternoons, we would all pile in the station wagon for a drive. We roamed around the countryside checking out how the neighbor’s crops or livestock were doing. As he checked the wheat while driving by, he would say “well that 55 mph wheat doesn’t look too bad.” We would also drive by houses he was working in or had built in years gone by showing us this or that special touch on each one. When both my parents had passed, I inherited the farmhouse and some acres. I am grateful for their generosity, which helped me with opening The Gerald Rex. For without their hard work and sacrifices all those years, I wouldn’t be writing this story. My story about my mom will be shared when we open our next Short-Term Rental. The Gerald Rex is meant to give our guests a wonderful time together while making lasting memories. We hope to be your future vacation destination year after year.
